The MEDIA SEMINAR is a cross-disciplinary dialog about the problems and possibilities of mediated communication and culture sponsored by Research Institute for Information and Culture at the SCHOOL OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION AT KOREA UNIVERSITY. We invite the university and larger community to join us each semester for an interesting set of lectures, screenings, and discussions.
미디어 세미나는 고려대학교 미디어학부 정보문화연구소에서 개최하는 학술적 공유의 장입니다. 커뮤니케이션 연구에 관련된 각종 논문 발표 및 영상물 상영을 통해 진지한 지적 토론을 가지고자 합니다. 대학원생들의 연구 발표와 교수님들과의 토론방식으로 매 학기 격주로 열릴 예정입니다.

Wallis Annenberg Chair in Journalism and Democracy

해리스(Jay Harris)교수는 현재 미국의 남가주대학교 Annenberg School for Communication의 “Journalism and Democracy”프로그램의 Wallis Annenberg Chair로 재직중이다. 또한 언론과 민주주의 연구소의 창립자이자 소장을 맡고 있다. 산타클라라 대학의 Presidential Professor이기도 하고 퓰리쳐상 이사진(the Pulitzer Prize Board of Director)이다. 현재 Deep River Associates라는 단체를 창립하여 미국 민주주의 발전과 지역공동체의 활성화를 위해 활동하고 있다.
70년대에 신문기자생활을 시작으로 편집자 그리고 발행인까지 평생을 언론인으로 살아가고 있다. 94년부터 2001년까지 해리스교수는 산호제 머큐리 뉴스 (San Jose Mercury News) 신문사의 발행인이었으며, 이 신문을 미국에서 인정받는 전국지로서 성장시켰고 특히 다문화적 접근으로 미국의 다양성 증진에 지대한 기여를 했다. 신문사 내부의 다양성에도 신경써서 30%이상의 기자들이 소수인종들, 절반이상의 기자들을 여성으로 고용했었다.
